UnderDeveloped 2024

UnderDeveloped started as a response to the deluge of copy/paste industry events that make up so much of the game scene at the moment. There’s an ongoing half-joke about how the best bits of games conferences are the things outside of the schedule provided by the (extortionately expensive) ticket.

We ran with that joke and ended up at a pretty earnest place. We wanted to offer something different to the industry grind. It’s a space for sharing and supporting each other. For showing weird, unpolished games and receiving constructive and reinforcing feedback.

Taking place in the park, UD 2024 was a relaxed affair, after a classic surprise rainy morning. We brought tarps and blankets, pens and paper, tea and biscuits, and an open afternoon for chats.

We didn’t put a time limit on the first UD, thinking that it could just go for as long as it needed. This meant the schedule shifted shape over the time we were out there. People brought games they were working on for playtesting and feedback, folkgames to play with a group, discussion topics as varied as how to make your dream game and what it’s like tending an allotment, and even a VR experience held under a tree.
